R.E. Smith

R.E. Smith Jr., 83, Tiline passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at his residence.

Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of Tiline. R.E. was a farmer, a retired machinist from VMV of Paducah. He was U.S. Army Veteran who was stationed in Washington State and Alaska; and a 50-year Mason of the Smithland Masonic Lodge #138.

In his spare time R.E. loved playing checkers and farming. He also loved watching Kentucky Wildcats and St. Louis Cardinals.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Gayle Smith of Tiline; two sons, Ernie (Ruth Smith of Bakersfield, CA and Richard Smith of Tiline; one daughter, Teresa (Mike) Lawrence of Joy; and four grandchildren, Casey Heald, Alyssa Peek, Emily Peek and Pierre Rivera.

R.E. was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Ernest and Lurline Hollowell Smith; and one brother, Marvel Smith.

Memorial service will be at 1:00pm on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Smith Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Brian Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Tiline Cemetery.

Friends may visit the family from 11:00am to service hour on Tuesday at the funeral home.
