Alberta Beggs

Alberta Lee Massey Beggs, 99 of Smithland passed away Monday, July 4, 2011.

Mrs. Beggs was a retired teacher with Paducah City Schools, a member of the Smithland Women’s Club, and a lifelong member of Smithland United Methodist Church. She graduated from Murray State University with a Bachelor of Science degree, a Master’s Degree in Science, and a Rank One Certification.

Surviving are her daughter, Diane Boswell O’Brien of Paducah; her son, James David Boswell of Smithland; two grandchildren, James Clark Russell O’Brien and Lee Boswell O’Brien, both of Smithland; two great grandchildren, Hunter Lee O’Brien and William Cinch O’Brien, both of Smithland; and one niece, Mary Ellen Gaston Dobbins of Tallahassee, FL.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Weldon Beggs; her parents, James Edgar and Emma Presnell Massey; one sister, Edith Massey Smith; one brother-in-law, Russell Smith; two half sisters, Mary Ellen Massey Mahan and Estelle Massey Gaston; two half-brothers, Eddie Massey and Vernon Massey; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be Friday at 11:00 am at Smithland United Methodist Church, with burial following at Smithland Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Smith Funeral Chapel in Smithland; and Friday at Smithland United Methodist Church from 10:00 am until the funeral hour.
