Nona Lou “Mama Lou” Wolfe, age 96, of Smithland, was gently called home to be with her beloved Jesus at 6:45 pm, Saturday, March 12, 2016 from her residence in Smithland.
“Mama Lou” as she was affectionately known to many, worked for years as a licensed practical nurse at Western Baptist Hospital of Paducah, and finished her nursing career at the nursing home in Salem, Ky. She was a longtime active member of the Smithland First Baptist Church, along with being the oldest member. In addition to being an avid UK wildcat fan, Nona Lou had also received the life achievement award at the 2011 Smithland October Fest. She was also a Kentucky Colonel.
Nona Lou is survived by her two daughters, JoAnn Sloan of Smithland and Mary Lou Terry, and her husband Jim, also of Smithland; her two sons, Jerry Wolfe, and his wife Anne Marie, of Rockledge, Fla. And Terry Wolfe, and his wife, Elaine, of Ledbetter. Additional survivors include 9 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 12 great- great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Nona Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Nelson Wolfe; one brother and one sister. Her parents were Rich and Edna May Glass.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Thursday, March 17th, 2016 at the Smithland First Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Carter and the Rev. Shawn Vandergriff officiating. Burial will follow in the Edmonds Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5pm until 8pm Wednesday, March 16th, 2016 at the Smith Funeral Chapel in Smithland, Ky.
