Sarah Josephine Roberts

Sarah Josephine “Jo” Roberts, 81, of Smithland, KY, passed peacefully on June 30 with loved ones close by. She was born September 5,1942, in Buena Vista, TN to William Viven and Beatrice Kee. Jo was the apple of her parents’ eye. 

She proudly stated that her girls were her greatest accomplishment, whenever she had the chance. Becoming a grandmother was another source of pride. 

She was a member of Smithland First Baptist Church for over 60 years and played the piano there for much of that time. 

When Jo had a massive stroke in 1988, she wasn’t expected to survive. She spent the next 36 years joyfully proving them wrong! Once again showing her truly admirable strength and determination.

She loved living in her Riverfront home where she enjoyed sharing stories of Smithland and her antiques with all who visited. She also loved making treats for friends and family during the holidays.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Hobart Roberts. Surviving Jo are her daughters, Sabrina Champion (Amy) of Shelbyville, KY and Angela Champion (Shelley) of New Albany, IN, two grandsons Jayden and Zachary, cousin, Joe Kee of Chesapeake, VA, and many friends, especially Marble Champion of Hampton, KY. 

Funeral services will be at 11:00am on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Smith Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Danny Sherrill officiating. Burial will follow at Smithland Cemetery.

Friends may visit the family from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Friday at the funeral home.
