Thomas Edward Teitloff

April 7, 1936 — June 8, 2024

Granite City

Thomas “Tom” Edward Teitloff, 88 of Granite City, IL went into the loving arms of his Lord Jesus on June 8, 2024, after a brief illness with brain cancer. The son of Gathiel and Elsie Mae (Thomason) Teitloff, he was born on April 7, 1936, in Carrsville, Kentucky.

Tom grew up on a farm in Carrsville, KY and learned the value of hard work, until he joined the United States Air Force in 1955 and proudly served his country until 1959. He met his wife Suzanne “Sue” Greeves in high school. She went off to St. Louis, MO to nursing school and he joined the Air Force. They were married in 1957. He was an iron worker for 55 years, Local #392. He was a 32nd degree Mason, Lodge #127, and a member of the Shrine. He was an avid outdoorsman and very proud of breeding “all American bird dogs.”

During his life, Tom loved people, and time meant nothing to him. If he saw a stranger in need, he would offer his long-winded advice and try to help. He frequently picked up hitch hikers and bought bus tickets “home” to young people who had lost their way. If you were fortunate, you would hear his jokes over and over again. His favorite song was “I did it my way.”

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne of Edwardsville, Il: his 2 daughters Karen (Keith) Buzzell of Dayton, ME; Kathi (Dale) Steinmetz of Edwardsville, IL; grandson Michael Steinmetz of Chicago, IL. granddaughter Nicole (Darren) Hussey of Glenwood, IA; his brother, Terry (Mickey) Teitloff of Smithland, KY; his two sisters Gaydean Whittsett of Owensboro, KY; Linda (Richard) Peck of Paducah, KY; and nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, June 21, 2024, at the Potters House Baptist Worship Center followed by a graveside service at the Smithland Cemetery in Smithland, KY with Pastor Andrew Sexton officiating.
