Danny Joe Sword

Grand Rivers

Grand Rivers, KY – Danny Joe Sword was born in Detroit, MI, on April 7, 1953. He lived in Michigan for many years, working as a machinist for Fisher Body, then transferring to Ohio in 1983, where he worked and retired from General Motors. Later in life, he and his wife of 28 years, Theresa, moved to Grand Rivers, Kentucky, to care for his mother in 2018.

Danny lived a life of love to the very end. He will be remembered for his selflessness, generosity, and candor. His humor and kindness are remembered by all that knew him. Danny enjoyed all things outdoors, including fishing, boating, hunting, gardening, and riding his Harley on the country roads. He was also a skilled, competitive dart thrower and loved to build in his workshop. If his nose wasn’t in a book or a crossword puzzle, you would find him in the kitchen cooking up delicious and creative recipes. He was a proud Instant Pot expert! His family and animals, especially dogs, were his greatest loves. Danny never met a stranger and would always run into someone he knew no matter where he was. If you were his friend, you were family, and you knew it. Danny inspired his kids by sharing his love of music, especially Pink Floyd and the Grateful Dead, that will continue to live on through them. He got a kick out of stirring the pot on social media that was enjoyed by his many Twitter followers and Facebook friends. Danny's favorite thing to do was explore local craft fairs and farmer's markets, traveling and finding new restaurants and hidden gems throughout the country with the love of his life, his bride whom he loved to tease and pester with his witty banter all along the way.

On January 26, 2022, Danny passed away in Nashville after complications during surgery. He is survived by his wife, Theresa Sword, his 3 children Keith Sword (Amy), Marianne Sword (Jerry) of Arizona and Tiffeny Bowersock-Sword (Nick) of Ohio, 4 grandchildren, Jaden, Ashen, Rylie, and Payton, his sister-in-law, Sharon Sword, niece, and nephew Allison Sword-Palac (Dave) and Kevin Sword (Lauren). He was preceded in death by his mother and father of Grand Rivers, Frank and Lucille Holbert, his brother, Anthony Sword of Michigan, his beloved aunt and uncle of Grand Rivers, Cecil and Charlene Walker.

His family will celebrate his life in a private gathering in his home in Grand Rivers. In lieu of flowers, Danny would greatly appreciate a donation to your local animal shelter in his honor.

Smith Funeral Chapel  is in charge of arrangements.
