Virginia Whitaker, 88, of Gilbertsville passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2018 at her residence.
Mrs. Whitaker was a barber for over 47 years. She began her career at Irvin Cobb Barber Shop and was the first lady barber in Benton, KY. She also owned Village Barber Shop.
She enjoyed gardening, spending time with her family, and being with her children and grandchildren.
Surviving is one son, Barry (Mylinda) Whitaker of Benton; one daughter, Sonia Gail (Tyler) Seale of Houston, TN; eight grandchildren, April Smith, Adrian Smith, James Whitaker, Christina Ortiz, Wallace Richardson, Tristian Whitaker, Torrey Chalpah, Virginia Seale; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Reusaw Borders and Mary Melvina Borders; six brothers, John Melvin Borders, Othel Borders, Owda Borders, Orval Borders, Audi Ludd Borders, and Fred Borders; four sisters, Hattie Reynolds, Lena Borders, Jettie Lela Flannery, Magdalene Thweatt.
Funeral services will be at 1:00pm on Monday, February 18, 2019 at Smith Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Charles LaChance officiating. Burial will follow at Smithland Cemetery.
Friends may visit the family from 11:00am to service hour on Monday at the funeral home.
